Anyone who follows the Westfield Matildas players on social media will know that one of the only things as important to them as football (some would say more important) are their canine companions.
No matter how long the Westfield Matildas are away playing football around the world, these loyal friends are there to give unconditional love on their return.
On International Dog Day, some players shared what they love most about their very good dogs (oh yes they are).
Caitlin Foord and Peach
“Peach is honestly my little furry child. She is so loyal – no matter how long I’ve been away, she is [always] so excited to see me and she just brings me so much happiness. Boxers in general are good dogs but the energy they bring is next level and they never fail to make you laugh and smile 😍.”
Clare Polkinghorne and Arlo
Laura Brock and Ella
Mackenzie Arnold and Jack
"I just love his personality. Jack's always so happy to greet me when I come home whether it’s been months or minutes. He picks and chooses who he wants to bark at on our morning walk and only likes dogs that he can outrun 😂 I love him to bits and glad we could rescue the little guy and better his life like he has ours."
Teagan Micah and Beaux
Ellie Carpenter and Bolt
Katrina Gorry and Rio
“Rio is my best friend. Nothing can compare to the bond we have. My favourite thing is when I leave the house for thirty seconds to take the bin out, when I come back in he gets so excited and acts like I’ve been gone all day. He’s been there through some of the toughest times and is one of the reasons leaving Australia is so hard. I never knew it was possible to love something so much ❤️.”
Karly Røestbakken and Reggie
Steph Catley and Bentley
“Bentley’s the best because he’s the perfect blend of everything you want in a dog. He’s chill but playful and loves cuddles but makes you work for it sometimes. He has so much character to the point that when he looks at you, sometimes you think he knows all your secrets. He is so loved and cherished by my family, the best boy in the whole world. We love him so much!”
