FFSA's Nathan Kosmina and FFA's Vito Basile made the 1.5hr journey north of Adelaide, to Wallaroo-s North Beach to play part in the annual ‘Wallaroo Beach Day Out- Festival. It was the first time in the events short history there has been Football representation.
Beach Football was on offer for children as young as 6, with the eldest participant being 16 years old. Once again, Football being the ‘World Game-, games catered for both male and female participants. Despite the weather elements and the un-beach like cool - overcast conditions, teams took part in 5 v 5 or 4 v 4 demonstrations, where the emphasis was on fun and participation rather than who won on the day.
Beach Football is played without shoes and at times, can be quiet challenging on the uneven, inconsistent surface. However, it was amazing to see the children adapt to the conditions with ease, as the skill levels and quality of games were a joy to watch. With plenty of goals being scored and beach sand flying freely through the players feet, all those who took part had a most enjoyable time.
The feature on the day was a club exhibition match held with the assistance of the U13 and U15 players from Northern Demons Soccer Club, who made the special trip from Pt Pirie for the event. A big thank you to Troy Condon - Junior Delegate of the Northern Demons Soccer Club for organising the players and also thanks to the parents and players for their willingness and support of the Beach Football demonstrations.
