Vale Pedro Salazar-Hewitt

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has been saddened to hear of the passing of former Socceroos Media Officer Pedro Salazar-Hewitt.

Pedro passed away on Wednesday morning following a period of illness at the age of 55 years.

Chilean born, Salazar-Hewitt worked for Dutch Eredivisie Club, PSV Eindhoven, from 1997 to 2011 as press officer and spokesman and played a major role in the professionalization of PSV´s press department.

In 2004 he was a media officer for the Dutch national football team for Euro 2004. He was co-opted  to join the Socceroos as a  media officer for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany due to his strong working relationship with Guus Hiddink.

In 2010 Salazar Hewitt re-joined the Socceroos delegation as a media officer for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa where he focussed on international media relations.

After working at PSV, Salazar Hewitt acted as spokesman at FC Twente and also as a sports consultant and freelance journalist.

FFA would like to extend its sincere condolences to the Salazar-Hewitt family and friends during this very sad time.
