Football Federation Australia has successfully launched Telstra Football Anytime in a number of locations throughout the country during March & April 2006. Children in Brisbane, Alice Springs, Adelaide, Mt Gambier, Leeton, Wagga Wagga, Nowra, Panania, Yass, Canberra, Mildura and Melbourne have been the first to experience this fantastic new program.
In excess of 35 centres have already been confirmed and will commence in May and June. Football Federation Australia continues to establish centres in consultation with the school & football community as interest in the program grows. The period immediately following the World Cup also promises to be an ideal opportunity to introduce many more youngsters to the game.
As the rollout of Telstra Football Anytime proceeds, Football Federation Australia is committed to offering programs in Tasmania and Western Australia and in the medium term taking the program to regional and remote areas of Australia. For those areas that have already had Telstra Football Anytime, centres will be ‘re-activated- in the coming months so that those children who missed out will still get an opportunity to participate.
The small regional town of Leeton, in the NSW southwest, and the Sydney suburb of Panania, have both embraced the Telstra Football Anytime program with 75 kids and 83 kids attending these centres respectively. In both locations the program was actively supported by the local club/Association and was held in a school holiday format over three days.
Telstra representatives attended the Panania event providing a BQ for the children and their parents and handing out participant kits at the final session.
In both centres participants very much enjoyed themselves with club officials indicating their willingness to host the program again and recommending the Telstra Football Anytime program to other clubs and schools.
