Telstra announced it had signed a 12 month sponsorship agreement with Football Queensland and its associated clubs, further demonstrating its commitment to football in Australia.

As the official sponsor of Football Queensland, Telstra will become the official provider and preferred supplier of telecommunications services for Football in Queensland.

Telstra Metropolitan General Manager for Brisbane, Mr Anton Jones said Telstra had a proud association with football in Australia through sponsorship of the Football Federation Australia, the Socceroos, the Hyundai A-League competition and the Telstra Football Assistance Fund.

Telstra is a major supporter of sport in Australia, with strong ties to a number of codes. It made sense for us to broaden our support to include Football Queensland.

Through this sponsorship Telstra will seek to further leverage its support for the grassroots clubs through the $200,000 Telstra Football Assistance Fund and through its association with Telstra Football Anytime - the new introductory football program aimed at boys and girls aged 6 - 12 years.

The Telstra Football Anytime program launches in Queensland on 3 March 2006. For more information, please visit www.footballaustralia.com.au/footballanytime

Football Queensland Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Kay, said he was delighted Telstra had come on board as official sponsor.

Numerous Queensland clubs benefited from the 2005 Telstra Football Assistance Fund and I have no doubt many more will benefit in 2006.

While the National Football Team will be the focus of all Australians when it competes in the World Cup competition in Germany later this year, we must not forget the Socceroos of the future.

The support of companies like Telstra ensures opportunities are provided at the grassroots level,” he said.
