South Australia-s U/17 Girls team caused the biggest boilover on the first day of the Qantas National Talent Identification Championships being held at Valentine Sports Park in Sydney.

Two second half goals saw the South Australian-s beat NSW Metro 2-0 in their Group B game, with the other match in that group also providing somewhat of a surprise with the ACT beating Western Australia 1-0.   Stacey Day gave South Australia a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute and then Danielle Barbiero made sure of the upset win with the second goal in the 79th minute.   Ellie Brush scored the only goal of the latter game in the 29th minute.   In Group A of the Under 17-s, Queensland and Victoria fought out an exciting 2-2 draw, while Northern NSW proved too strong for NSW Country 2-0.   Victoria took the lead in the 32nd minute from Christine Pfeiffer, but the lead lasted four minutes with Kim Carroll equalising for Queensland. Sasha McDonnell gave Queensland the lead in the 47th minute, but in a game that saw neither able to gain the ascendency, Aleks Sinclair equalised just a minute later.   Emma Cooper gave Northern an early against Country and Renae McIntosh added a second after 44 minutes, to put at the top of the group.   In the Under 15 Girls, all four games were decided by just a single goal, giving every indication that both groups could be tight groups.   In Group A, NSW Metro-s Tori Gikas scored the only goal after 15 minutes to give them a win over South Australia, while Emily Leversha-s goal in the 55th minute gave Victoria a win over Northern Territory.   Group B saw Western Australia win against the ACT with Sarah Hughes 59th minute goal proving enough, while Leah Curtis earned Queensland a win over Northern NSW with a goal after 38 minutes.
