Sydney was the big winner from Hyundai A-League's Super Sunday with the Sky Blues' 2-1 win over Newcastle moving them level on top of the table, while Perth secured a rare away win against Brisbane and North Queensland snatched a late point against Wellington.

Goals to Mark Bridge and Steve Corica sandwiched Matthew Thompson's first half goal as the Jets' winless run on the road stretched to 12 games. Newcastle will feel it should have left town with a share of the points, Thompson missing a penalty after 22 minutes and the woodwork denying it late.

Sydney's win leaves it equal with Gold Coast, which lost to Central Coast on Saturday night, at the top of the ladder after seven rounds, but adrift on goal difference.

Perth recorded a breakthrough victory away from home, making the most of some sloppy defending to down Brisbane Roar 4-2 at Suncorp Stadium.

The home crowd was stunned into silence after just 45 seconds when a wayward header from Josh McCloughan saw a cross from Mile Sterjovski end up in the back of the net for an own goal. The visitors then doubled their lead on the eve of halftime when Wayne Srhoj pounced on an errant pass from Bob Malcolm and fired calmly past Liam Reddy.

The Roar, who created a handful of chances in the first half, continued to press and Brazilian flyer Henrique opened his side's account in the 50th minute - dancing past Glory defender Andy Todd and beating keeper Aleks Vrteski with a scorching shot.

Glory striker Branko Jelic and Roar counterpart Sergio van Dijjk then snaffled a goal apiece to set up a grandstand finish - the Glory holding a 3-2 advantage with 26 minutes left on the clock. It was not to be though, with Adriano Pellegrino whipping in a tame speculative cross that somehow slipped through the hands of Reddy and trickled into the back of the net.

A late strike by Chris Grossman saw North Queensland Fury grab a share of the spoils with a 1-1 draw against the Wellington Phoenix.

The midfielder struck deep into stoppage time at a sun-soaked Westpac Stadium just when the Phoenix looked on course for its second win of the season. The Phoenix led for most of the game thanks to a sixth minute effort from Leo Bertos but in truth the home side only has itself to blame after wasting several clear cut chances - as it did in last weekend-s 1-1 draw away at Melbourne.

In National Youth League action, two late Kerem Bulut penalties gave Sydney FC a 2-0 victory over Newcastle.

Bulut won both penalties after being brought down in the box, racing to the spot on each occasion to convert - the first after 71 minutes and the second with five minutes to go.
