Signing news: Adelaide United star confirms his departure

Daniel Adlung has confirmed his own departure from Adelaide United in an interview with German news outlet BILD.

While Adelaide United are yet to officially announce the status of the 30-year-old midfielder, who impressed in his debut season in the Hyundai A-League and had a year remaining on his contract.

Despite this, Adlung himself has given an interview stating his desire to now return to Germany.

Having joined Marco Kurz’s side from 1860 Munich, Adlung has now hinted that he could return to his former club who regained promotion back to the 2. Bundesliga at the end of the season.

“It was a terrific adventure, sporty, it was incredibly fun, but I wanted to go back home,” Adlung told BILD about his departure from Adelaide United.

Speaking specifically on his hopes of a return to 1860 Munich, the five-time capped German Under-21 international added: “[It’s] outstanding, what they (1860 Munich) have done this season.

“My motto is always: never say never.”

Adlung impress during his 27 Hyundai- A-League appearances, netting five goals and grabbing a further two assists.

He proved he was capable of the spectacular, with an outstanding long-range goal against Central Coast Mariners among the contenders for Hyundai A-League goal of the season.

Adlung’s reported departure comes following the previously confirmed exits of Tarek Elrich, Ben Garuccio, Dzengis Cavusevic, Mark Ochieng and Johan Absalonsen.

Adelaide United have also confirmed the arrivals of former Melbourne City defender Michael Jakobsen and 2016 Grand Final winning star Craig Goodwin.
