Sharn Freier said that having the CommBank Matildas accessible for youngsters in Queensland is “a great opportunity” that she’s “super pumped” for.
The CommBank Matildas will play at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Thursday, 28 November, and Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast on Sunday, 1 December.
“It’s obviously very exciting,” she expressed.
“I would have been stoked, as a young one myself, being able to watch the Matildas play. So coming to Brisbane and the Gold Coast and being accessible for young girls and boys to watch their national team, I think it’s a great opportunity for everyone to come and witness it.
“I’m super pumped about it.”
The games will be the first opportunity for Freier to play in a national team shirt in the state where she grew up.
“I’m definitely very excited to have games here in Queensland, home for me,” she said.
“If I get the opportunity to play, I’ll be super stoked. I can’t wait to have friends and family there as well. So pumped.”
Branching out to regions like the Gold Coast is important for Freier as it means that a wider variety of people are able to come and see the team in person.
“We saw the massive effect the World Cup had being here in Queensland,” she said.

“These players are idolised by so many young boys and girls – not just the girls. So branching out and being available to put on a show for this many people, I think it’s extremely important.”
The winger knows that the CommBank Matildas opposition, Brazil, will be a stern test – but she’s looking forward to the experience.
“When I think about Brazil, I think of very creative and skilful players,” she said.
“It would definitely be hard. A challenge, but an experience that I’ll definitely remember. So I’m very excited.”
Freier is one of the newest members of the CommBank Matildas squad, debuting earlier this year and making her Olympic debut as an alternate.
She is focused on continuing to learn and grow every time that she can.
“I’ll just keep my head down, stick at it, keep working hard, and I’ve put myself in the best possible position to be in as many national team camp environments as I can,” she said.
“Hopefully I earn selection for the Asian Cup in 2026. But just sticking at it, working hard as my main goal, and yeah, we’ll see what happens.”
