Referees flying the Aussie flag at Club World Cup

Western Sydney Wanderers FC might not have made it through but there will still be an Australian flavor in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals on Thursday.

The Aussie trio of referee Ben Williams and assistants Matthew Cream and Paul Cetrangolo have been appointed to officiate the semi-final clash between Argentina’s San Lorenzo and giant-killers Auckland City.

Williams is no stranger to taking charge of big games and was a part of the recent FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he became the first Australian whistle-blower to referee a second round match on world football’s biggest stage.

He was in the middle for Costa Rica’s penalty shootout win over Greece as well as earlier matches including Ecuador's 2-1 win over Honduras and Belgium's 1-0 win over Korea Republic.

Williams will now be in charge as Kiwi side Auckland, who have been the surprise packets of the tournament, aim to continue their amazing run.

They started by beating local Moroccan side Moghreb Tetouan on penalties to reach the quarter-finals before knocking off African champions ES Setif 1-0.

The Oceania champions face a monumental side to make the decider though against Copa Libertadores winners San Lorenzo.

You can see if Auckland can complete the fairytale as well as which the Australian officials in action with the game to be played at 6.30am (AEDT) on Thursday ON Fox Sports 4, channel 505.
