Qantas Australian U-13 Boys team continue their winning ways
Qantas Australian Under 13 Boys Football team continue their winning ways at AFC U14 Festival of Football
Sabah, Malaysia Thursday, 3 June 2010 By Adam Mark
It took a wonder strike by diminutive playmaker Anthony Krkovski to hand the Qantas Australian U13 Boys Football team their first win in Malaysia as part of ‘AFC U14 Festival of Football- against Singapore.
Krkovski, showing the perfect combination between technique & co-ordination, shot from all of 30 yards to score the deciding goal in the 12th minute. Singapore would have been happy to have come out of the game conceding only the solitary goal as both Australian wingers Thomas Waller and Captain Daniel De Silva caused havoc out wide with some amazing runs and created ample chances to add to the Australian tally. Singapore resorted to playing long balls from the back and speculative efforts from distance which rarely troubled Lucas Spinella in the Australian goal.
Another highlight of this match was when Qantas Australian Under 13 Boys Football team Head Coach Ante Juric received his second green card in as many matches for good sportsmanship behavior, this is another initiative as part of this tournament to ensure that not only are we developing talented footballers but also good human beings with the right values.
Later in the day, the Qantas Australian Under 13 Boys Football team produced another industrious performance in their second match to defeat Vietnam 1-0.
An improved collective effort saw the young Aussies create numerous chances from within the first third however lacked the composure in front of goals to find the back of the net. Bai Antoniou scored the decisive goal, floating in a free-kick from the right, which left the Vietnamese goalkeeper stranded. Australia showed an improved defensive display in this encounter with a better understanding amongst the players of the structure and ability to control the match. Australia was forced to play the final third of the match with only 10 men due to an injury to left full back Nathan Bertolissio. A number of tactical changes by Head Coach Ante Juric ensured his team continued their undefeated run in the tournament as well as their third straight game without conceding a goal.
Unfortunately Qantas Australian Under 13 Boys Football team's afternoon match was cancelled due to a torrential rainstorm which saw all the Tournament-s afternoon matches called off for the second day straight. However the Skill Testing session due to take place on Friday 4th June has been removed from the festival program to allow for this afternoon's games to be rescheduled. Therefore Australia will play their washed out game against Singapore on Friday 4th June at 9.40am.
