The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Alan Contini, convened to consider an incident from Round 23 of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 Season.
In or around the 70th minute of Sydney FC’s match against Wellington Phoenix FC on Sunday 29 March 2015 an incident involving Shane Smeltz (Sydney FC) occurred.
The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Shane Smeltz was issued with a direct red card.
The MRP determined that the Player committed the offence of R2 – Assault on a Player and proposed a sanction of two (2) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus one (1) additional match.
This is the minimum sanction for such an offence under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations.
