In the first two weeks of May, Football West junior clubs kicked off their season with Optus Small Sided Football.

Thousands of children aged 6-9 flocked to their club grounds for the first few games of the year.

Perth metro clubs are this year playing in a cluster system with between three and seven clubs in local areas coming together at one ground on a Sunday morning.

Parents are enjoying helping out as game leaders, and this involvement is fostering a fantastic community spirit in the game.

Children are enjoying playing on smaller pitches, and more touches of the ball means more involvement and excitement for each player.

FFA Regional Development Officer for WA, Ann Gourley, is pleased with the way the first few weeks have been run by teams and host clubs.

“Clubs have been working hard together in clusters to ensure that the players are getting a positive learning experience and enjoying the game.”

“From the games I have seen, the kids are having a fantastic time, and look forward to their weekly games.”

“Credit must also be given to the parents and volunteers who help out week in and week out as game leaders, without their help, Optus Small Sided Football would not be running as well as it is across the state.”
