With the weatherman forecasting rain and thunderstorms for Sunday 16th August - there was a cloud of doubt over the FFSA Optus Small Sided Football Gala Day held at the Marden Sports Complex - home of the Adelaide Blue Eagles Soccer Club.

Never trust the weatherman though…!!!! What he did forget to predict, was a shower of goals as over 330 kids from 66 teams - representing 16 Junior Premier League Clubs ventured onto the 12 Optus Small Sided Football fields. The day commenced dark and gloomy at 9.30am and concluded bright and sunny by 3.30pm. Yet again, the day catered for both male and female Football players, with the August Gala Day having the best participation rate to date. Considering the season is almost coming to an end, the enthusiasm and excitement never ceased.

A special mention and thanks to the Adelaide Blue Eagles Soccer Club for their support and assistance on the day including the volunteers who worked tirelessly in the canteen. To the hundreds of players who not only battled against the opposition but were also challenged by the strong windy conditions, thank you and congratulations on your efforts. The quality of football displayed by the players at these Gala Days has improved significantly over the past 4-5 months. Credit must also be said to the parents and coaches for their efforts in developing these fine footballers.

The Gala Day was also well supported by the Adelaide United Football Club with Westfield W-League player Rachel Quigley and National Youth League player Alex Sunasky mixing well with the grassroots rising stars.
