‘No School – No Play’

Westfield Matilda – Kyah Simon visits Ipswich State High School

Current Westfield Matilda and Football Federation Australia (FFA) Indigenous football mentor Kyah Simon, travelling to Germany next week for the 2011 FIFA Women-s World Cup, visited Ipswich State High School on Wednesday 8 June as part of FFA-s - ‘No School No Play- Indigenous Football Development Program.

Ipswich State High School was selected by Football Queensland to take part in the program, with Paul Lonton delivering the football activities over a series of school visits to a group of aspiring girls. With the program reaching its completion, Bruce Dinsdale (Football Queensland - Football Operations Manager) presented Principal Mr Simon Riley, on behalf of the school community, a Sony Hi-Fi Stereo System as recognition of the schools support and participation within the ‘No School No Play- program.

Kyah Simon presented to Ipswich school student and ‘No School No Play- outstanding achiever, Jonece Close, a signed Matildas World Cup squad jersey and Nike ball. With the age parameters of the Indigenous Football Festival catering for 13-15 years old, unfortunately for Jonece, she is ineligible to attend, however, was privileged to have a private lunch with Kyah.

Paul has selected six girls from Ipswich State High School to attend the Indigenous Football Festival, to be held in Alice Springs, 6-8 July. Kyah personally congratulated and presented the six students with their ‘Grassroots Football Certificates- and was also able to spend time with the students in a ‘closed- meet and greet.

Kyah also later mentored a group of female school students sharing her educational, football and life experiences.
