Newcastle Jets v Western United FC: match preview

It’s been a tumultuous period for the Newcastle Jets but they’ll be hoping the start of a new month leads to a fresh start in Saturday’s clash with Western United FC.

It will be 62 days without a win for the Hunter club come kick-off at McDonald Jones Stadium, a run that has seen them pick up just one point from eight games.

They sit four points adrift at the foot of the ladder and if they are to make an unlikely push for a finals berth, they must start their winning run now.

Western United FC are only just hanging on to their spot in the top six after their thrilling 4-3 loss to Adelaide United on Sunday.

Mark Rudan’s men have hit a bit of slump in recent weeks, managing just one win from their previous five games.

And it was the Jets who came out on top when the club’s met back in Round 6, with Angus Thurgate’s goal the difference in a 1-0 win at GMHBA Stadium.
