New Grassroots coaching course to be launched
FFA is launching a new course for coaches of players aged 10 and younger. The ‘Grassroots Football Certificate’ is a 3-hour introductory course designed to help parents and other volunteer coaches to provide quality football experiences for youngsters.
‘Many coaches of U-6 to U-10 teams have no football experience, neither playing nor coaching, so we really need to do all we can to help them perform their crucial role,- said Kelly Cross, FFA-s National Coach Education Manager.
Coaches who attend the course will be shown the basics of kids- coaching, and will receive the new FFA book ‘Coaching Grassroots Football,- as well as a Certificate of Attendance.
The book will be a valuable resource for junior coaches, and the course highlights the key factors in the book. In this way, coaches will leave the course with a clearer idea of what kids- coaching is all about, and a firm grasp of how to utilise the resource book.
At $25 per coach, the course is intentionally affordable, and since it is conducted in one night at a local venue, it is designed to be accessible.
The course will be available from March 2007.
Clubs and zones can make an advance request for a Grassroots Football Certificate course to be conducted at their own venue by contacting their local State or Territory Association. ‘With our coach education partners in the States around Australia, we will be providing a service that will make a difference to kids- football,- Cross added.
The Grassroots Football Certificate provides an ideal introduction to coaching, and is excellent preparation for the Junior Football Certificate, which is a 16-hour course.
FFA-s Coach Education slogan is ‘Better coaches, better football-, and it is clear that the message applies to Grassroots coaches as well as those at the elite level.
