National Indigenous Football Festival Results

The 2012 FFA National Indigenous Football Festival has kicked off in Alice Springs, with the first session of play providing plenty of goals. 14 teams from around Australia are in battle to determine who will be the national champions. Teams have travelled from Perth (WA), Geraldton (WA), Darwin (NT), Vic Daly Shire (NT), Borroloola (NT), Adelaide (SA), Melbourne (VIC), Gippsland (VIC), Jarvis Bay (NSW) and from Moree (NNSW).

In the boys division, the NSW Southern Sharks have set the pace by scoring 23 goals in three games (on maximum points), while in the girls division, NSW Southern Sharks are also leading the way currently on 7 points.

The format for the festival has adopted a 5v5 modified approach with games consisting of two halves of 12 minutes.

Earlier in the morning, Festival Ambassadors Kasey Wehrman and Leena Khamis delivered ‘Illicit Drugs In Sport- educational talks to all the festival participants.

The next session will be played this evening under lights, as the temperature in Alice Springs is set to reach 40 degrees later today.
