McCallum's Sky Blue on the charge
Collette McCallum Sky Blue FC have won two games on the trot to lift themselves towards finals contention in the USA Women’s Professional League.
McCallum has started in the past two games and coincidently the team has enjoyed two wins over Boston Breakers. In their only game for which she came on as a second half substitute, Sky Blue lost 1-0 against St Louis Athletica.
Meanwhile its been the opposite for Lisa De Vanna and her Washington Freedom teammates, as they have slipped down the table dramatically after three successive losses. While De Vanna played two full games and started the other, the goals have dried up for her and Freedom and they now sit in second last position, after being second just three weeks ago.
Heather Garriock is returning to the US and is hopeful of playing in the last month of the season with the Chicago Red Stars. Garriock returned home after suffering successive injuries early in the season, which has seen her play just 20 minutes of football.
In other news from the WUSA, McCallum's Aussie team mate Sarah Walsh has been traded to St Louis. Walsh continues to remain sidelined (nearly two months) with a hamstring injury, but looks to make a comeback in the next few weeks.
In Sweden, Kate Gill-s Sunnana has gone the same way at Washington, dropping their three games to slip down the table and 10 points adrift of 4th place. Gill though has played full games in all three losses and like De Vanna; the goals have dried up for her.
Gill will play one more game, before the competition goes into a two-month hibernation, with the final six games to be played from late September.
