Michelle Heyman got off the mark for the season with her 100th goal in Canberra United colours, helping her side to a win over the Wellington Phoenix.
Elsewhere, a goal for Emily Gielnik was not enough for Melbourne Victory, as Melbourne City took out derby honours.
Read our review of the weekend’s action below.
Western United 0 – 0 Central Coast Mariners
After Round 1 saw a record 31 goals scored across the six matches, Round 2 began with a scoreless draw.
The home side will feel the more aggrieved to not walk away with three points after having the better of possession and chances. Chloe Logarzo was heavily involved in proceedings but was not able to find a way through a stout Mariners defence.
The Central Coast had plenty of chances of their own, but have their goalkeeper Sarah Langman to thank for their clean sheet. They look ahead to taking on Melbourne City next week.

Melbourne Victory 2 – 3 Melbourne City
A see-sawing Melbourne Derby saw last season’s premiers City walk away with all three points.
Venezuelan international Mariana Speckmaier struck first, giving City the lead early. Victory struck back, goals to Emily Gielnik and childhood Victory fan Alana Jancevski meant that the home side took the lead into half-time.
It would be second-half goals to Lourdes Bosch, and a second to Speckmaier, that would seal the result for City.
Alex Chidiac started in midfield for Victory along with Gielnik but was not able to have the decisive impact required for her side.
Brisbane Roar 1 – 0 Sydney FC
Last season’s champions Sydney FC have started the season with two defeats after falling to Brisbane Roar.
The game started slow, with both sides locked into an intense arm wrestle. It was Chelsea Blissett who broke the deadlock for Brisbane after a set piece delivered by Tameka Yallop right on the stroke of half-time.
One year after Blissett scored the lone goal to give Brisbane a 1-0 victory over Sydney in 2023, history repeated itself, with Sydney unable to find a goal to lift themselves to a point.
Yallop started and played exceptionally well for Brisbane in her 150th game for the club – particularly as the game wore on - while Sharn Freier was unavailable after feeling minor tightness in training.

Wellington Phoenix 0 – 1 Canberra United
Canberra United picked up their first-ever win in New Zealand, holding on to defeat the Wellington Phoenix 1-0.
Remarkably, they have now extended their unbeaten run to six – five of those being wins. Michelle Heyman, as always, was central to this week’s victory, scoring the lone goal and making it a century of goals in Canberra’s green.
While Wellington had the majority of chances and possession, some fantastic saves by former CommBank Young Matilda Sally James in Canberra’s goal meant that they were unable to find the breakthrough.
Canberra are now two wins from two to start the season and will take on Adelaide United next week.
Western Sydney Wanderers 0 – 2 Adelaide United
Adelaide United have secured their first three points of the season, with two goals on either side of the break consigning the Western Sydney Wanderers to a 2-0 defeat.
Emily Condon scored an Olimpico to give the Reds a richly deserved lead in first-half stoppage time before Fiona Worts sealed the result early in the second half.
Sophie Harding started the match for the Wanderers but was unable to make her mark on the result in the face of a dominant Adelaide performance.
Perth Glory 3 – 2 Newcastle Jets
An eventful game in Perth ended with the Glory securing a 3-2 victory against the Newcastle Jets.
CommBank Young Matilda Georgia Cassidy struck in the first minute after a defensive error by Newcastle to give Perth an early lead. Josie Allan equalised with an unbelievable goal soon after, before Sarah O’Donoghue and Kelli Brown gave the home side a two-goal advantage.
A point appeared to be out of reach for the Jets when goalkeeper Danielle Krzyzaniak was shown a red card in the 68th minute, but a stoppage-time stunner from former CommBank Young Matilda captain Sheridan Gallagher took the margin back to within one.
Perth were able to hold on, however, to secure their first win of the season.
