It was a promising result for the Mariners who went toe-to-toe with the defending Premiers throughout the fixture. City also showed moments of sharpness in what could already be a preview of a finals match.

It wasn’t the case in the end, though – ever-present Cass Davis secured the breakthrough in the 70th minute, and the win for the home side.
Natasha Prior started in the heart of defence for Newcastle and helped keep a clean sheet.

Catherine Zimmerman pulled one back for Western from a header in the first half but CommBank Young Matilda Ella O’Grady would seal the result in the second.
Gielnik and Alex Chidiac both started the match for Victory, with Gielnik withdrawn in the second half. Chloe Lincoln was on the bench for Western while Chloe Logarzo was unavailable for this fixture.
