UEFA Women’s Champions League
Group A
Lyon also sealed their qualification to the next round – more than likely in top spot – with a 4-1 victory over Roma. The game remained scoreless until the 74th minute when Roma took an unexpected lead. However, that seemed to wake Lyon up – a brace to Kadidiatou Diani, followed by goals for Eugenie Le Sommer and Wendie Renard, sealed the three points for last season’s finalists.
Ellie Carpenter started and played the full match at right-back for Lyon.
Group B
It was a much closer affair than last time out, but with the same result, as Real Madrid defeated FC Twente 3-2. Jaimy Ravensbergen gave the Dutch side the lead before goals to Linda Caicedo, Signe Bruun and Alba Redondo sealed the result for Madrid. Daniela Galic was an unused substitute for Twente.
Chelsea secured qualification to the next round by defeating Celtic 3-0. Lucy Bronze and Wieke Kaptein scored in the first half before a late penalty sealed the result. Sam Kerr remains unavailable for Chelsea as she continues rehabilitation for her ACL injury.
Group C
Arsenal narrowly defeated Juventus 1-0 thanks to a late goal to Swedish international Lina Hurtig to secure their place in the quarter-finals. It had been a game of few chances before Hurtig was able to break through. Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord both started for Arsenal, while Kyra Cooney-Cross was an unused substitute.
Group D
Manchester City defeated Hammarby 2-1, although not before the Swedish side gave them a real scare. Khadija Shaw scored a brace either side of an equaliser for Ellen Ingegerd Wangerheim to secure qualification to the next round. Alanna Kennedy and Mary Fowler both started and played the full match for City.
England
Chelsea take on Manchester United on Sunday, 11 pm AEDT in the only WSL game this weekend. Chelsea have the chance to extend their lead on top of the table after defeating City last week. Sam Kerr remains unavailable for Chelsea as she continues her ACL rehabilitation.
France
Lyon travels to take on Le Havre on Sunday, 3 am AEDT. Le Havre currently sit at the bottom of the league table and will consider any point against Lyon a success. Ellie Carpenter will be available for the French champions.
Paris FC take on Fleury on Saturday, 7 am AEDT. A win would see them remain within touching distance of PSG in second. Sarah Hunter is expected to be unavailable for this clash due to injury.
Denmark
FC Nordsjælland take on Aarhus on Sunday, 12 am AEDT. They’ll be searching for three points to bounce back after a disappointing run of form in the league. Winonah Heatley will be available this weekend.
Netherlands
FC Twente host Feyenoord on Sunday, 10.15 pm AEDT. They’re currently languishing eight points from the top of the table and would love a win to kick-start them back in the right direction. Daniela Galic will be available for Twente.
Germany
TSG Hoffenheim takes on VfL Bochum in the Round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal Frauen – the German cup - on Saturday, 4.30 am AEDT. Bochum currently sit in third in the second tier but are coming into the game after two successive losses. Jamilla Rankin will be available for Hoffenheim.
