Jamieson relishing Gamba rematch

Adelaide United FC defender Scott Jamieson is relishing the chance of a rematch against AFC Champions League conqueror Gamba Osaka, when they clash in the quarter final of the FIFA Club World Cup at Toyota Stadium in Nagoya on Sunday night.
Jamieson was among Adelaide-s best players in the 2-1 play-off win over Waitakere United on Thursday night that set up the meeting with the Japanese side.
Adelaide will get the chance to reverse the 5-0 aggregate scoreline defeat at the hands of Gamba, suffered over two legs in the final of the Asian Champions League Final last month.
For Jamieson, who has revelled this season at left full back, and the rest of the Reds squad, the final is now a distant memory, but the opportunity to exact some sort of revenge is not on them and lessons have been learned.
“It was a disappointing result in the ACL Final but this is a new game, it-s a one off and we-re confident we can get the result we want and move on to the next round,” Jamieson told www.adelaideunited.com.au
“We pinpointed the mistakes we made in those games, and we-ve got a chance to rectify them on Sunday. I think the hunger and desire the boys are willing to show in this game will hopefully give us the result we are looking for, we wanted the opportunity and we-ve got it so it-s in our hands now.”
Adelaide though will need to produce a much better performance than they did against Waitakere, needing a late winner from captain Travis Dodd to get past the Oceania Champions.
The Reds dominated for much of the match and while they forced the New Zealand side on the back foot for most of the match, they won't get that luxury on Sunday night.
Jamieson though showed his versality and ability from the dead-ball, narrowly missing with a free kick, while also forcing a good save from the Waitakere keeper in the first half.
“To be honest I just hit and hoped that shot (free kick) and thought it had actually gone in but never mind, I-m getting closer so hopefully against Gamba I can score,” he said.
While the match against Gamba offers the Reds a chance of redemption, it's a little hard to ignore the prospect that awaits the winner with a dream match up against European champions Manchester United in the semi finals.
The former Bolton Wanderer has played Manchester a number of times in reserves competition in his three years at the English Premier League club, but to face their star-studded first team will be something he would not have imagined when he returned to Australia in search of first team football.
However all the players know that to get there they must overcome Gamba, who no doubt will be just as eager to play arguably the biggest club side in the world.
“It would be a great achievement for everyone if we were to play Manchester United, not only the players but the club and a place like Adelaide,” Jamieson said.
“But we-ve got to concentrate on Gamba and I guess for us, every game is a grand final for us and we-ve got to take every game as it comes and first it-s against Gamba Osaka.”
Sunday-s AFC Champions League Final rematch kicks off at 9.30pm (AEDT) and can be seen LIVE and exclusive on SBS.
