Jade North departs camp early
Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Pim Verbeek has given permission for Jade North to leave the camp which is preparing for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2011 Qualifier against Indonesia, presented by FOXTEL, which will be played at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on Wednesday 3 March 2010.
North is in the final stages of transferring from K-League club Incheon United to Norwegian “Tippeligaen” Club, Tromsø, and will leave Brisbane on Saturday to meet up with his new club in Turkey to undergo a final medical test.
North had consulted Verbeek throughout the transfer process and the Qantas Socceroos Head Coach understood why North had to leave camp early.
"I am very happy for Jade to find another club and it appears to be the right time to leave Korea so he can give himself the best chance to be selected for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa," Verbeek said.
"He is going to play in a very difficult league and if he can play regular football he will be much better off,” concluded Verbeek
As a result of North-s departure, Verbeek has called up Adelaide United defender Robert Cornthwaite. Cornthwaite made his debut for the Qantas Socceroos in the AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualifier against Kuwait in Canberra last year.
The Qantas Socceroos drew 0-0 with Indonesia the last time they clashed in the opening match of the AFC Asian Qualifiers in Jakarta in January 2009.
The Qantas Socceroos are currently placed in second position of the Group B points table behind Kuwait on the number of goals scored and will need a draw or a win against Indonesia to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup 2011 which will be held in Qatar in January 2011. In the other group B match, Oman will need a win if they hope to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup 2011 when they host Kuwait in Muscat on Wednesday 3 March.
All Qantas Socceroos matches are broadcast live and exclusive on FOX Sports.
