FFA and Sports Medicine Australia have announced a joint initiative to roll-out an “Introduction to Football First Aid Course” education program.
Football Federation Australia (FFA) and Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) have announced a joint initiative to roll-out an “Introduction to Football First Aid Course” education program to grass roots football clubs nationwide.
FFA-s Head of Medical Services, Dr Jeff Steinweg, believes that this course is an ideal way of educating the grass roots football community so they have the basic skills when dealing with acute football injuries.
“This short, simple and hands on course is designed to give anyone the skills and confidence to attend an injured player on the football field.”
Mark Bos, Executive Officer of SMA NSW was excited to partner FFA to deliver this course exclusively throughout Australia.
“The health and safety of grass roots players was the overriding factor in developing this course when no first aid or other medical services are available.” Mark Bos, Executive Officer of SMA NSW, Emma Highwood, Head of Community Football at FFA and Dr Jeff Steinweg, Head of Medical Services at FFA
The fact that the course is two and half hours long means that it can be delivered in one evening session and should be very accessible to all clubs around Australia. The cost to clubs is $20 per participant and offers the incentive of a fully stocked first aid kit (valued at $180) when a club organises a session for 20 people or more.
Apart from attending basic injuries the course also educates for conditions such as concussion and cardiac arrest.
