Avondale welcome Newcastle Jets in the second Semi Final, in their first A-League test of the 2025 Cup.

The NPL Victoria premiers have been prolific in the Final Rounds, touring Australia’s capital cities, scoring 14 - the most of any team left in the competition.

They kick-started their campaign with a 5-1 victory over Perth’s Stirling Macedonia before beating NPL NSW giants APIA Leichhardt 3-1 in the Round of 16. Avondale continued to turn on the style in the Quarter Finals by recording a 6-2 win against Brisbane City and making the final four.

South Sudan international Manyluak Aguek is the in-form player of the Cup, with six goals and two assists in three matches. Aguek’s performances headlined with a hat-trick against Brisbane City, sending him to the top of the scoring charts.

Midfielders Stefan Valentini and Luca Tevere have also been key to Avondale’s run, each scoring in the Brisbane City rout.

The Jets have had a tricky run to the Semi Finals, which began with a comeback against three-time winners Adelaide United, eventually securing a 2-1 victory. Newcastle then convincingly breezed past NPL Northern NSW side Cooks Hill United before defeating current holders Macarthur FC 3-0 to earn their place in the Semi Finals.

New midfielder Max Burgess has settled in well with the Jets, grabbing his first goal for the club against the Bulls, while experienced winger Kota Mizunuma has two goals in the Cup.

Also, with only one goal conceded in three matches, goalkeeper James Delianov has proven to be a solid addition at the back for the side.

High goal scoring has been integral to these teams' runs to the Finals Rounds, setting up a potentially enthralling clash on Sunday.
