Runaway South Australian NPL leaders MetroStars will have the opportunity to pull off their first ‘Cupset’ when they host Macarthur on Monday evening.
MetroStars made light work of NPL ACT side Canberra Croatia FC in the Round of 32, defeating them 4-0. The four separate goal scorers speak to the strengths of a team currently 15 points clear in the league.
Victory on Monday evening would see them reach the quarter-finals for the second time in their history after they did so in 2023.
The two times that Macarthur have advanced past this stage, in 2022 and 2024, they ended up lifting the trophy. They will take heart from their straightforward 5-0 victory over SD Raiders to reach this stage as they hope for another deep cup run.
Fans may catch their first glimpse of Korean international and former Borussia Dortmund striker Ji Dong-won in a Macarthur shirt after he signed during the week.
