Goals galore in Townsville
It was a high scoring start to the FFA Indigenous Football Festival being held in Townsville. The inaugural saw some outstanding skills on display and some terrific football as well and Indigenous teams from all over Australia marked the inaugural tournament.
In the boys Borroloola Cyclones look the team to beat after a a 9-1 win over the Marngrook Meeteel. Marngrook took the lead in the 5th minute, but within two minute it was all level and the Cyclones from the Northern Territory went on a goalscoring spree.
D. Clarke scored four goals including three goals in a five minute spell, while D Ellis scored a hat-trick of his own.
The other match in Group A was a much tighter affair with local North Queensland side Yallorin of the North fighting out a 3-3 draw with Wakala from South Australia.
In a see-sawing game, Yallorin were two goals up in the first 10 minutes, only for Wakala hitting back to lead 3-2. But a goal to C. Sullivan leveled it up and it finished all square.
In Group B, Dubbo based side Giralang Galaang beat Tasmanian side Tarrabah 9-0 with L Usher netting four goals in the big win, while Western Australia-s Maali had a good 4-1 win over the Northern Territory-s Eritja, with C. Papertalk getting two goals.
In the Girls group, Borroloola Cyclones and Yallorin of the North look the teams to beat after comfortable wins.
The Cyclones won 5-1 against Wakala with K. Anderson netting twice, while Yallorin had a 7-0 win over NSW side Miyay Yulu-gi; M Lingen netting four goals for the winners.
