The Futsalroos have dismantled Vanuatu 10-2 in their second match of the inaugural Commonwealth Futsal Cup in Wellington on Saturday afternoon.
The Aussies remarkably had eight different scorers for their first eight goals, with skipper Fernando de Moraes adding a second from the spot and Alistair Dunlop notching a brace late on.
The win follows a thrilling 3-2 result over New Zealand as the Futsalroos swept the Trans-Tasman Cup and means the final match of their tour against Malaysia will double as a final on Sunday.
In shades of what happened when Australia last played Vanuatu at Auckland’s OFC Futsal Invitational in 2013, the Futsalroos were made to work for their lead against the Pacific Island minnows.
However Rob Varela’s squad were able to wear their opposition down and after taking a slender 3-1 lead into the half-time break, courtesy of goals to Dean Lockhart, Wade Giovenali and Daniel Fogarty, finished the match in empathic fashion.

De Moraes and Dunlop both grabbed second-half doubles and were joined on the scoresheet by Chris Polkinghorne, Adam Cooper and Jordan Guerreiro, as the Futsalroos' superior technical ability came to the fore.
Vanuatu managed to score a goal in each half as they punished a couple of defensive lapses from the Aussies and while they looked lively on the counter were ultimately punished for their ill-discipline.
In the days other result Malaysia proved too strong for the Futsal Whites, claiming a 5-2 win over the hosts, ensuring the Aussies will need to be at their best to beat their Asian rivals and lift the Cup on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm AEST).*
