A weekend in April saw over 400 kids enjoy learning about Small Sided Football at two venues in the Northern suburbs of Perth.

Football West-s gala fun days were this week run at Subiaco and Kingsway, following the success of the gala days the previous week in Cockburn and Kalamunda.

Kids, parents and coaches from clubs around Perth were present to learn the rules of Small Sided Football prior to the 2009 season commencing.

Entertainment such as bouncy castles and facepainters kept the kids entertained while not playing.

Perth Glory Women-s player Katarina Jukic was present at the Kingsway gala day to encourage the players and sign some autographs.

The response from those who attended was positive, and FFA Regional Participation Manager for WA, Ann Gourley, was pleased with the attendance.

“It was great to have so many children turn up to learn about the game, and it was good for parents, coaches and game day coordinators to see how the game days will be run.”

“Following these 4 gala days, I am much more confident that clubs are prepared for the start of the season.”

Small Sided Football was introduced on a small scale in 2008 and following the positive response is being rolled out in clubs across Australia. The season starts at the beginning of May, with registrations currently open at clubs.
