Football Federation Australia’s CEO, David Gallop, announced at Parliament House the launch of its Football Cares campaign. Football Cares will use football to assist the international humanitarian efforts in Europe and Syria and the integration of the 12,000 Syrian refugees into Australian society.
Inspired by the Football Cares campaign initiated in Europe earlier this year by Italian club AS Roma, the Australian iteration of Football Cares will ask members of the public to fund either the international or domestic element of the campaign
Australia for UNHCR
“Helping Syrian families stay safe, warm and dry this winter. “
Australia for UNHCR raises funds to provide life-changing humanitarian support to refugees and other displaced and stateless people.
With the Syrian conflict in its fifth year, Syrian refugees are the single-largest group of people in UNHCR’s care. More than 4 million Syrians have now fled to neighbouring countries with another 7.5 million people displaced inside Syria itself.
UNHCR (The United Nations Refugee Agency) is the leading international humanitarian organisation assisting people fleeing from armed conflict and persecution. We provide protection and assistance such as:
- Winterised tents and shelter
- Emergency relief items such as thermal blankets, sleeping bags, heating stoves and fuel, cooking sets, water containers, hygiene items
- Medical support
- Food and clothing
With the onset of winter in the northern hemisphere, Syrian families need your help to survive. Temperatures in the Middle East and Europe can fall as low as -16 degrees Celsius and the region is prone to lashing rains and snow storms.
Australian donations will support UNHCR’s frontline emergency operations for Syrian families, ensuring that they are kept, warm, safe and dry through the bitter cold months ahead.
Football United creates chances for youth and children through the magic of football.
Since 2006 Football United has created chances for thousands of children and youth through the magic of football. Football United is a university-community engagement program in the area of sport for social change based within UNSW.
Football United was founded in 2006 with the goal of supporting refugee and newly arrived youth and their families in their transition into Australian society. The vision has evolved to become a program which combines a number of effective mechanisms for engaging and reengaging young people with refugee experiences and youth from communities experiencing disadvantage, fostering their educational engagement and promoting cross cultural harmony using the power of football.
Since its inception Football United has delivered positive outcomes for more than 6000 participants in three states in Australia and in Myanmar, and is an FFA charity partner.
