FFSA Optus Small-Sided Football Gala Day

Question: What has plenty of goals, is full on fun and has over 120 kids playing…? Answer: The FFSA Optus Small Sided Football Northern Gala Day……

Held on Sunday 26th April at Burragah Reserve - home of the Modbury Jets (juniors), over 120 grassroots Footballers took to the fields to participate in Small Sided Games. With the winter rains coming a lot earlier than expected, it didn-t dampen the spirits of the children or parents to front up and battle against the odds.

With the first games scheduled to kick off at 10am, the Under 6-s played three matches of 15 minutes duration, where no results or tables were record. The emphasis of the day was fun, enjoyment and active participation in Football. The Under 7-s and 8-s also played three games, however with match duration of 20 minutes. Breaks were allocated to the players in between pitch transitions while Adelaide United stickers and ‘Read and be active- pamphlets were also on hand for the children.

The following clubs took part in the Gala Day and also have well established Optus Small Sided Football programs within their club structures: Modbury Jets, MetroStars, Adelaide Blue Eagles, Croydon Kings, Western Strikers, Raiders and the Pirates. The Womens game was also represented with Fulham and Adelaide University taking part in the fun.

Words of thanks must be extended out to the host club Modbury Jets and Keith Levett for providing the ground and canteen facilities. Thanks also to all participating clubs, parents, officials and most importantly - the players.
