2010 Westfield FFA National Junior Championships for Girls
New South Wales Metropolitan 1 finished at the top of Group A at the 2010 Westfield FFA National Junior Championships for Girls after gaining the maximum five bonus points from the FFA Technical Committee who judged their playing style the best across the three day competition edging them ahead of Northern NSW.
The award of the five points meant that even though NSW Metropolitan 1 were beaten 1-0 by closest rivals Northern NSW in the final group match, and finished behind their rivals on match points, they did enough to claim the Group A title.
Tulia Palozzi-s fourth goal of the competition ensured that Northern NSW remained the only unbeaten team in the tournament but just missed out on first place after the announcement of the bonus points.
Elsewhere in Group A the ACT gained three bonus points to add to their six match points to give nine overall and third spot on the ladder ahead of South Australia who finished fourth after winning their final match 1-0 against Queensland thanks to a goal from Emily Condon.
In Group B New South Wales Metropolitan 2 confirmed their superiority winning their fifth match in succession with a Stephanie Maiolo goal the difference in the 1-0 win over New South Wales Country.
It completed a perfect tournament for NSW Metropolitan 2 who also claimed the maximum five bonus points to finish the competition on 20 points.
Western Australia edged into second place in Group B after winning their final match 4-0 against Tasmania. Emily Henderson added her fourth goal in five matches to kick start Western who romped home.
The addition of one bonus point was enough to secure second in the group, marginally ahead of NSW Country who came home third and possessed the tournament leading scorer in five-goal Annie Huggins.
The FFA Technical Committee for 2010 Westfield FFA National Junior Championships for Girls, consisted of Westfield Matildas Head Coach Tom Sermanni, Westfield Australian Under-13 Girls national team coach Nicola Williams, ACTAS coach Milo Milanovic, Westfield Matildas Goal keeper coach Paul Jones and former English Premier League player Spencer Prior.
In the match between the Group A All-Stars and NSW Metropolitan 1 a solitary goal from South Australian midfielder Dylan Holmes separated the two teams at the end of a tight, well-fought clash, whilst Ruby Jackson struck the only goal as NSW Metropolitan 2 defeated the Group B All Stars 1-0.
