Five Australians recently attended a FIFA Futuro III course for top referee instructors. Separate courses were delivered for technical instructors, fitness instructors and Futsal instructors from June 3-8 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Futuro III gives participants an insight into FIFA’s latest theoretical and practical approaches to instructing referees. Instructors were required to analyse and present clips taken from the 2014 FIFA World Cup and also worked in groups to deliver practical training sessions to local Malaysian referees.
Instructors were also assessed for their knowledge of the Laws of the Game and their understanding of FIFA interpretations on topics such as handball and DOGSO.
The Instructors returned to Australia with the latest FIFA teaching material and resources. This material will be incorporated into the referee curriculum and be distributed by FFA to the Member Federations.
Futuro III is an important component of FFA’s strategy to have a nationally coordinated approach to the education and coaching of Australia’s referees.
