FFA holds female goalkeeper development camp

Head of FFA Goalkeeping Tony Franken and National goalkeeper development manager Dean May have concluded a three day goalkeeper development camp.

The camp was conducted at the FFA Centre of Excellence in Canberra and was attended by a group of 11 female goalkeepers aged 13-15 years of age from the Member Federations from all over Australia.

Tony Franken said: “These camps are instrumental in the scouting and monitoring of our young talented goalkeepers. It allows us to observe and assess them in a holistic and match realistic environment, and hopefully is the start of their development along the national pathway. We would hope to see a future Matilda's goalkeeper from this group.

National Goalkeeper Development Manager Dean May added: “Not only was this a great opportunity to work with the talented young goalkeepers but it also gave us an opportunity to bring in two identified talented goalkeeper coaches. They observed, as well as having an opportunity to conduct sessions, receiving ongoing mentoring and feedback from myself and Tony. It is hoped they will take back what they have learnt and implement into their own coaching sessions."
