FFA Chairman Frank Lowy and directors Brian Schwartz and Phill Wolanski have been unanimously re-elected at the Annual General Meeting of Football Federation Australia (FFA).
“I feel privileged by the outcome and I thank the State and Territory Member Federations and the Hyundai A-League clubs for their endorsement,” said Mr Lowy.
“I-m honoured to be re-elected for a further four-year term as the Chairman of FFA and I-m delighted that my fellow directors, Brian Schwartz and Phill Wolanski, were also re-elected.
“We have a Board in place that has the right mix of skills and experience to guide the game over the next four years.”
The FFA-s Strategic Plan for the period 2011-2015 was released at the AGM.
FFA CEO Ben Buckley stated that the vision of the Strategic Plan was to make Australia a ‘Top 10- football nation.
“Our plan involves the development of a football culture ingrained with unique Australian characteristics,” said Mr Buckley.
• “We aim to produce technically-gifted Australian players from an elite player pathway that-s the equal of the world-s best and build a Hyundai A-League that rivals the best in Asia. • “With 1.7 million participants, our focus is on conversion of the passion in the football community into an active engagement with our national teams and Hyundai A-League clubs. • “We want to make football a sporting and social powerhouse in Australia.”
The Strategic Plan is a blueprint to deliver the following:
1. National Teams excellence. 2. A sustainable and vibrant Hyundai A-League. 3. Greater connection with the grassroots. 4. A successful 2015 AFC Asian Cup that leaves a legacy benefit for our game.
On the future of the FFA, Mr Lowy was buoyant and prepared for the hard work ahead.
“The scale and breadth of FFA-s undertaking is huge,” continued Mr Lowy.
“On a per capita basis football must do more, for more people, with fewer resources than other mainstream Australian sports.
“Very soon a review into the long-term prospects for football will be completed when Mr Warwick Smith delivers his report into the game.
“We have worked closely with Mr Smith and the Commonwealth Government to complete that review and the four-year strategic plan that FFA has developed formed the basis of our contribution to the review.”
