Boys tournament

NSW Metropolitan 1 and 2 have gained the titles of under-13 National Champions after day three of the championships held in O-Connor, Canberra on Saturday.

In Group A NSW Metropolitan 1 claimed the title after being awarded enough Technical Performance Points to leapfrog fellow contenders Victoria Metropolitan despite losing the final match of the tournament to their rivals by 1-2.

Christopher Zuvela gave NSW Metropolitan 1 the lead after only three minutes and it was an advantage they held until a minute after half-time. Anthony Duzel levelled for the Victorians before Adrian Vuniqi won the match with two minutes to spare.

A hat-trick from Jacob Tarasenko gave Northern NSW a great end to the competition as they confidently beat Western Australia 3-0.

Tarasenko-s treble took his National Juniors tally to five and gave him a share of the leading goal scorer spot with NSW Metropolitan 1-s Bai Antoniou. Tarasenko later bagged the only goal in the Group A All-Stars 1-0 win over NSW Metropolitan 1 in the afternoon exhibition fixture.

In the other Group A match Queensland and South Australia shared a 1-1 draw with Lee Child equalising for South Australia after Dakota Askew-s goal had given Queensland a thirteenth minute lead. The point was South Australia-s second of the three-day championships.

In Group B, NSW Metropolitan 2 confirmed their status as the class acts of the field winning their fifth match in succession with a 1-0 win over NSW Country, Lachlan Roberts striking the 21st minute winner.

Home town ACT couldn-t raise their game to finish with a win as a Michael Holden double helped Tasmania to a 4-1 victory whilst Lachlan Beever was also on target twice in Victoria Country-s 4-0 whitewash of Northern Territory, Thomas Fuller and Henri Scott completed the win.

OFFICIAL RESULTS Day 3 - Saturday 10th April 2010 Venue: O-Connor Enclosed, O-Connor, ACT

GROUP A: Western Australia 0 Northern NSW 3 (Jacob Tarasenko 4-/31-/32-), Queensland 1 (Dakota Askew 13-) South Australia 1 (Luke Childe 27-), NSW Metropolitan1 1 (Chris Zuvela 3-) Victoria Metropolitan 2 (Anthony Duzel 21-, Adrian Vuniqi 38-)

Day Two

Victoria Metropolitan continues to lead the way in Group A at the 2010 FFA National Junior Championships for Boys following the conclusion of the second day-s play at O-Connor in the ACT.

The Victorians have yet to concede a goal in four matches of play with their 2-0 win over Northern NSW in the morning followed by a goalless stalemate with Western Australia in the afternoon session.

NSW Metropolitan 1 enjoyed a fine day with successive wins of 3-0 and 3-2 over Queensland and South Australia respectively. Bai Antoniou struck three times in the two matches to take his overall tally to five goals.

A 2-0 win over Northern NSW kept Queensland in the hunt for a high placing as Zack Coulson and Dakota Askew struck inside the first ten minutes of the game after their morning setback.

In Group B NSW Metropolitan 2 continue to remain unbeaten after four matches of the competition having recorded two wins from their fixtures on day two. A hat-trick from Lachlan Wales helped his team to a 4-2 victory over Tasmania in the top-of-the-table clash. Tasmania was reduced to ten players after the dismissal of Josh Freestone for a handball on the goal line and from then on it was an uphill battle. Facing Northern Territory in the afternoon game, NSW Metropolitan 2 was too strong for their opponents and ran out winners 6-1.

The ACT finally broke their goal drought with a 3-1 win over Northern Territory swiftly followed by a hard fought 1-0 success against Victoria Country with a solitary goal from Thomas Milicevic enough for the three points. The host team completes its fixtures tomorrow facing Tasmania.

Upon the completion of the group stages on Saturday morning the FFA Technical Committee will then allocate their Technical Performance Points, on a 5-3-1 basis, based on the manner in which the teams played during the tournament before selecting their All Star selections.

The All Star selections will then face the Group winners in the afternoon exhibition matches before the presentation of medals.

Boys comp Kicks off (Thursday 8th April)

The 2010 FFA National Junior Championships for Boys kicked off at O-Connor Enclosed in the ACT Thursday morning with twelve matches spread across two groups of six in front of an appreciative crowd.

Victoria Metropolitan are undefeated after their opening two matches of the Championships with victories over South Australia and Queensland making them the early team to beat in Group A, both matches ending in a 2-0 result for the Victorians.

Hot on the heels of Victoria Metropolitan are Northern NSW who also chalked up a win and a draw on the opening day. Northern NSW opened their account with a 2-0 defeat of NSW Metropolitan 1 courtesy of goals from Cody Carroll and Jacob Tarasenko, but was pegged back in the afternoon after being held to 1-all draw with South Australia.

Queensland, who were 2-1 winners over Western Australia, and NSW Metropolitan 1 each have three points after the first two rounds of fixtures.

In Group B Tasmania had a terrific opening to the competition winning both their matches in convincing fashion.

A hat-trick from striker Isaac Kenyi led Tasmania to a 4-2 victory over Victoria Country before another goal glut in the afternoon came at the expense of Northern Territory who were beaten 7-1 with Darcy Hall repeating Kenyi-s feat by bagging a treble of his own.

Hall was joined on the scoresheet by Gus Rumney and Lachlan Senior who both recorded a brace.

Meanwhile, hometown team ACT struggled in front of goal on day one with their opening match resulting in a 0-2 defeat to NSW Metropolitan 2, and their second match a goalless draw with NSW Country who had impressed in the morning when they saw off a spirited Northern Territory 4-1.

Upon the completion of the group stages on Saturday morning the FFA Technical Committee will then allocate their Bonus Points, on a 5-3-1 basis, based on the manner in which the teams played during the tournament.
