FFA CEO David Gallop and Chairman Mr Steven Lowy AM have met with Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) President George Gkirtzikis at the 66th FIFA Congress in Mexico overnight.
With Greece set to tackle the Caltex Socceroos in two friendlies next month, Hellenic confirmed the 2004 European Champions would bring a full-strength squad Down Under for matches in Sydney and Melbourne.
Greece, currently ranked 37th in the World rankings, will have the likes of Roma star Vasilis Torosidis, Benfica striker Kostas Mitroglou and Fiorentina midfielder Panagiotis visit Australian shores for the June 4 and June 7 clashes.
The two nations have not met in an international friendly for nearly a decade, with Australia recording a 1-0 win over Greece back in 2006 in front of more than 95,000 fans at the MCG.
Although Greece missed out on qualification for the 2016 European Championships in France, their attentions have now turned to making the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
With World Cup Qualifying set to kick off in September, Greece views their visit to Australia as vital preparation with the Socceroos set to provide a stern test for Michael Skibbe’s side.
Meanwhile, issues surrounding Greece’s involvement in International Football has been resolved, with FIFA reaching an agreement with the Greek government and the EPO.
