Ellie Carpenter named AFC Asian International Player of the Year (Women)

Ellie Carpenter claimed the inaugural AFC Asian International Player of the Year (Women) overnight at the AFC Annual Awards Seoul 2023.

The defender was named as one of two finalists for the inaugural award, nominated alongside Japan's Yui Hasegawa. Carpenter claims the award after helping her club side Olympique Lyonnais to the UEFA Women's Champions League final and to a record-breaking 17th Division 1 Féminine title.

Last year saw the defender make her return from an ACL injury sustained during the 2021/22 UEFA Women's Champions League final. Carpenter featured in her second FIFA Women’s World Cup at Australia & New Zealand 2023 and player in all seven of Australia's matches, helping the host nation to their best-ever finish at the tournament of fourth place.

Carpenter played a vital role in Lyon's 2023/24 success and was named in both the National Union of Professional Footballers’ and Division 1 Féminine’s Team of the Season, while also starring in Lyon’s run to the UEFA Women’s Champions League final.

This award was announced at the AFC Annual Awards Seoul 2023, however, will presented to Ellie Carpenter at a later stage.
