New Caltex Socceroo hero Jackson Irvine has been unable to help Burton Albion ease their relegation fears overnight in the English Championship.
The Caltex Socceroos attacking midfielder earned his first international start against Iraq in Tehran last month and scored his first national team goal days later against UAE in Sydney.
His star is on the rise in the Green and Gold but his Championship side has lost 1-0 to league leaders Newcastle United.
Irvine played the full 90 minutes for Albion, who are just four points clear of the relegation zone with six games remaining.
BRAD UNUSED FOR BOURNEMOUTH
Fellow Caltex Socceroo Brad Smith was an unused substitute as Bournemouth scored a late equaliser to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield.
It took Smith's side a step closer to Premiership survival.
Bournemouth are 13th with seven games to go, seven points clear of the bottom three.
