Country High Schools defy the odds
Two country high schools, Cootamundra and Woolgoolga have defied the odds to make it through to the semi finals of the Bill Turner Trophy for girls in 2006. They are the biggest shocks that make up the largest schools competition in Australia for girls and the Bill Turner Cup for boys.
The 2006 Bill Turner Cup for boys, and the Bill Turner Trophy for girls, have reached the pinnacle of the High Schools 15 and under knockout eastern states tournament.
The final four teams, both boys and girls, will go head-to-head at Edgeworth Eagles Soccer Club, Park Street, Edgeworth in the City of Lake Macquarie, NSW in the second week of September.
Cavendish Road State High School, Westfields Sports High, The Hills Sports High and Illawarra Sports High will contest the Bill Turner Cup semi-finals, while Woolgoolga High, Hunter Sports High, Westfields Sports High and Cootamundra High will contest the Bill Turner Trophy semi-finals.

Cootamundra High's rise to the semi finals caps a marvellous year for the schools two girls teams, with the senior team also making the semi finals of the NSW Schools competition, which were played in Sydney this week.
