Craig Goodwin has played a major part in helping Sparta Rotterdam escape a relegation dogfight on the final day of the Dutch Eredivisie season.
Mooy's Huddersfield frustrated in Championship playoff
The former Hyundai A-League utility was introduced at half-time with Sparta's clash away at G.A.Eagles locked at 0-0.
Goodwin provided an assist for Austrian striker Martin Pusic to open the scoring after 57 minutes, but the Eagles pegged back an equaliser with less than 20 minutes to go.
Sparta went ahead when Pusic netted his second in the 80th minute, again assisted by Goodwin.
Then the former Melbourne Heart, Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United man scored a decisive third goal from a free-kick to secure Sparta's top-flight survival.
Fellow Australian Kenny Dougall was also a late substitute for Sparta.
The win sees Sparta finish one place above the relegation playoff spots and potential demotion to the second tier of Dutch football.
DUTCH DELIGHT FOR DAVIDSON
Meantime Jason Davidson has been part of an eight-goal thriller on the final day of the Dutch Eredivisie.
The Caltex Socceroos defender played a full 90 minutes in Groningen's 5-3 win at Twente.
It was Groningen's third win in four games and sees them finish eighth in the 18-team Dutch top flight.
