Caceres crosses the Tasman to sign with Phoenix
The Central Coast Mariners today confirmed that they have reached a mutual agreement with Adrian Caceres, allowing the Argentine born midfielder to link up with fellow Hyundai A-League club Wellington Phoenix.
Caceres joined the Mariners from Melbourne Victory ahead of the 2008/09 Hyundai A-League season, and heads across the Tasman with the club-s best wishes.
“Adrian came to the Mariners with high hopes from Melbourne, and while things may not have worked out quite how he or the club would have hoped, we certainly wish him the best of luck in what is a great opportunity for him.
“Over the past couple of weeks Wellington expressed an interest in acquiring the services of Adrian, and in discussions between the clubs it was agreed to release Adrian to them. We hope this move helps him achieve his goal of regular first team football.
“We thank Adrian for his contribution to the Central Coast Mariners and wish him all the success with his new club,” said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.
Ironically, the Phoenix was the opponent as Caceres became the 37th player to wear the yellow and navy in a competitive fixture, in a 1-nil loss in the 2008 Pre-Season Cup at Westpac Stadium. He went on to play 29 games for the club, six of those as a substitute, finding the back of the net on three occasions.
