Alen Stajcic's cellar-dwelling Central Coast Mariners head north seeking to avoid taking a step closer to an unwanted Hyundai A-League record on Friday.
The competition's basement boys have gone eight straight matches without picking up a single point – after gathering 13 points, and showing flashes of progress, in their first 12 matches.
The last two months have proven fruitless for the Gosford side and the back-to-back wooden spooners are staring down the barrel of their longest ever Hyundai A-League losing streak – which stands at 10 matches in 2018/19, a run which brought the firing of Mike Mulvey and the hiring of Stajcic.
The now-defunct New Zealand Knights hold the worst barren run of 11 straight losses, and Robbie Fowler's Brisbane Roar will seek to send Central Coast one closer to the precipice at Suncorp Stadium.
The Queenslanders have six wins, three draws and two defeats in their last 11 matches – a stretch that has transformed their campaign. Three points would take the Roar into the top four for the first time since Round 1, for 24 hours at least.
