Australian to referee the first match of the World Cup

Australian Jacqui Melksham has been nominated for the opening match of the FIFA Women's World Cup Germany 2011 between Germany and Canada in Berlin on 26 June.
This is Melksham's third FIFA competition after the 2004 and 2008 FIFA U-20 Women-s World Cups. The 33-year-old follows in the footsteps of Tammy Ogston, the Australian referee, who officiated in the last three FIFA Women-s World Cups, including the 2007 Final between Germany and Brazil in China.
Allyson Flynn and Sarah Ho, also from Australia, will be the assistant referees for this game. The fourth official will be Etsuko Fukano from Japan.
The match between Germany and Canada will be live on June 30, 1.30am AEST on SBS ONE.
