Australia still represented at World Cup
While the Socceroos may be out of the World Cup, three Australians are still a chance of making it to the final in Berlin with Aussie referee Mark Shield and his assistants Nathan Gibson and Ben Wilson still officiating in the tournament.
Shield, Gibson and Wilson are one of 12 refereeing trios who will be used from the quarter final stage onwards by FIFA.
But England's Graham Poll, who infamously gave Croatia's Josip Simunic three yellow cards during the 2-2 draw with Australia, and Russia's Valentin Ivanov, who issued four red cards and 16 yellow cards during the Portugal v The Netherlands second-round match, are headed home.
Just twelve of the 26 referee 'teams' are chosen to remain in the tournament, and Shield and his two assistants have clearly impressed in what has been a controversial World Cup for officials. 25 players have been given red cards so far, more than any other World Cup and the quarter finals haven't even begun yet.
Shield will be the fourth official, and Wilson the fifth official in Saturday's clash between Brazil and France in Frankfurt. Luis Medina Cantalejo, who gave the controversial last-minute penalty in Australia's heart-breaking 1-0 loss to Italy on Monday, will officiate in that match.
Slovakia's Lubos Michel will be in charge of Germany v Argentina, Belgian Frank De Bleeckere will referee Italy v Ukraine, while Argentine Horacio Elizondo will take control of England v Portugal.
