Aussie pair off to Confederations Cup
The final piece of the jigsaw was completed for Australian Match Officials Ben Wilson and Matthew Cream and they will take their place at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in June.
The pair of assistant referees will join Hyundai A-League Referee of the Year Matthew Breeze at the tournament in South Africa, after completing a grueling fitness test in heavy weather conditions in Canberra. Breeze still has to undergo a fitness assessment at a pre-tournament camp.
Despite the appalling weather, the pair came through the grueling tests that were conducted by FIFA fitness expert Toshio Utsumi.
It will be Wilson-s first Confederations Cup tournament, although he was present at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, while it will be Cream-s 2nd time at a Confederation Cup following his appearance at the 2005 event in Germany.
Both have been FIFA Match Officials since 2000 and have also appeared at numerous FIFA Youth tournaments.
