Aussie Captain Surprises kids

QANTAS SOCCEROOS NUMBER 1 MARK SCHWARZER MAKES SURPRISE APPEARANCE AT COTTEE’S SCHOOLS 5-A-SIDE SESSION

Sydney, October 4th 2010: Cottee-s ambassador and Qantas Socceroo Mark Schwarzer today took time out of his busy schedule to delight a group of children taking part in the Cottee-s Schools 5-a-side program at Waverley Oval in Sydney-s Eastern Suburbs. Mark, who is back in Sydney to play in Australia-s friendly against Paraguay on Saturday gave out signed footballs to the participants, shared tips and helped run the session which included small sided games and skills drills.

The children were understandably thrilled and amazed that one of their heroes and stars of the national team was there to pass on advice and had a day that they will surely never forget.

Speaking from the session Mark said, “I am only back in Sydney for a week so I am really pleased that I was able to come along today and help out.

It-s great that programs like this one exist, giving all children the chance to play football, not just those who are already part of established clubs. Although none of them wanted follow in my footsteps and play in goal I still hope they enjoyed the day”.

The Cottee's Schools 5-a-side program is a free schools initiative and partnership between Cottee's and Football Federation Australia providing year 3 and 4 students the opportunity to experience football in a fun environment.

Every child leaves with a giveaway bag full of fun Cottee-s football goodies to encourage them in football for the future. For more information on the program visit cottees.com.au/football
