Around the grounds: United make double swoop, Izzo’s act of generosity

Western United FC have received a huge boost on the eve of the Hyundai A-League resumption, making two new signings on Friday.

The competition newcomers have signed prolific NSW NPL striker Patrick Antelmi and former Western Sydney Wanderers youngster Nicolas Milanovic.

Perth-born Antelmi has joined the club for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign, having scored a stack of goals in the NSW NPL in recent seasons for Blacktown City, Wollongong Wolves and Sydney United.

Milanovic joins the club on a scholarship contract that will see him wear green and black until at least the end of the 2020/21 Season.

Meanwhile, United also announced that teenager Luke Duzel has signed a one-year contract extension.

Duzel, who joined United in September on a one-year scholarship contract, made his Hyundai A-League debut in round 21 as a late substitute in United’s 6-2 victory over Central Coast Mariners.

The 18-year-old will remain at United until at least the end of the 2020/21 A-League Season.

Izzo’s donation for Childhood Cancer Association

Adelaide United goalkeeper Paul Izzo has pledged $20 for every save he makes until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season to the Childhood Cancer Association.

Izzo is an ambassador of the Childhood Cancer Association and said it is a cause he is extremely passionate about and encouraged others to get behind the initiative in whatever capacity they can.

“Everyone has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the same goes for charitable organisations,” Izzo said.

“As a proud ambassador of the Childhood Cancer Association, I felt it was important to continue to raise awareness of the tremendous work they do.

“I know times are tough for everyone at the moment, but it would be great if Reds fans and the broader South Australian community can give as little or as much as they can to this worthy cause.

“Whether it’s $5 or if people want to match me with $20 any contribution is greatly appreciated.”

Moon honoured to lead his hometown club

New Brisbane Roar boss Warren Moon says he is both proud and privileged to be appointed as the club’s new Head Coach.

Moon takes the position with a handful of crucial games remaining in the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season after spending the last year as the Club’s Academy General Manager.

As a foundation player for Roar, who played in its very first Hyundai A-League fixture, it’s a proud moment for the NPL QLD Championship-winning coach to now lead the Hyundai A-League squad.

“I’m extremely proud and privileged to be given this opportunity. It’s one I will definitely not take lightly, it’s a club that means the world to me – I’m a foundation player, I’ve been here from Day 1,” Moon said.

“I’m also a proud Queenslander. I care about Queensland talent, I care about this club which has had a massive impact on the [Hyundai] A-League and in Queensland.

"I’m also really passionate about making sure that the pathway of Queensland players is ever present in our club.”
