Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Holger Osieck today announced that Alex Brosque will replace Scott McDonald, who has succumbed to a hamstring strain, in his squad for Australia-s opening 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers against Thailand (Brisbane, 2 September 2011) and Saudi Arabia (Dammam, Tuesday 6 September 2011).
After consultation with Scott, his club (Middlesbrough FC) and the Qantas Socceroos medical staff, Osieck decided that it would be best for McDonald not to travel to Australia for the match and released him from national team duties to continue his injury treatment.
Brosque-s inclusion brings the number of former Brisbane Roar/Queensland Roar players in the Qantas Socceroos squad to seven.
The Qantas Socceroos will begin to assemble in Brisbane on Monday 29 August ahead of the match.
